Cream Cheese Frosting

This frosting is especially used on Red Velvet cakes and cupcakes. This frosting is also used very famously with Carrot-Orange tea cakes. It is similar to the buttercream frosting except for the addition of cheese which is added for that extra soft sour taste. Use this frosting when you want to offset the sweetness of the cake or cupcakes.

Ingredients for Cream Cheese Frosting for Cakes

  • Cream Cheese – 450 gms
  • Butter – 172 gms (3/4 cup)
  • Icing Sugar – 1150 gms (10 cups)
  • Vanilla Essence – 1 tsp
  • Cocoa Powder – 114 gms (1 cup) (For Chocolate Frosting)

Ingredients for Cream Cheese Frosting for Cupcakes

  • Cream Cheese – 226 gms
  • Butter – 86 gms
  • Icing Sugar – 460 gms (4 cups)
  • Vanilla Essence – 1 tsp
  • Cocoa Powder – 57 gms (½ cup) (For Chocolate Frosting)

Method

  1. Add cream cheese and butter to a large bowl and beat until well combined and smooth.
  2. Add half of the icing sugar and mix well until well combined and smooth.
  3. Add vanilla essence and mix well.
  4. Add the remaining icing sugar and mix well until well combined.
  5. Add more or less icing sugar as per the desired consistency.
