Q3. How is Yeast different from Baking Powder and Baking Soda?
Yeast is a single-celled microorganism (related to mushroom species). For cooking, we use Saccharomyces cerevisiae (sugar eating fungi). Yeast gets activated in warm water with sugar mixed in it. This fermentation results in production of carbon dioxide. Yeast is ideal for bread baking as the flour gets raised completely before baking. While rising, the yeast will keep multiplying. It takes 2-3 hours for the bread dough to rise beautifully. This activity is stopped by oven’s heat.
Q4. Can we use cake batter to make cupcakes?
Yes, we can use cake batter to make cupcakes. We only need to take care of the two things while converting a cake recipe into a cupcake recipe –
- Reduce the baking time
- Reduce the temperature
Same logic can be applied inversely to convert cupcake recipe into a cake recipe.
- Increase the baking time
- Increase the temperature
